I have been a sportswriter for more than three decades and currently work at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where I have been employed for 22 years. I am originally from Southern California and attended California State University, Fullerton.
My desire to write a book took me away from sports and into the healthcare field when I learned of the significant number of children being treated for gun injuries in the city, mostly at St. Louis Children's Hospital. I spent five years researching the hospital's work and spending time with gunshot victims and their families. With this book, I hope to shed light on one hospital's involvement with gun injuries among children and the attempts to reduce the number.
